Jonathan W. Gipson begins his third year as sports information director at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith.
At UA Fort Smith, Gipson is in charge of media relations and publicity for the school’s 10-sport NCAA Division II athletics program.
A native of Washburn, Ark., Gipson is a 1992 honor graduate of Greenwood (Ark.) High School. He earned an associate's degree in journalism from Westark College (now UA-Fort Smith) and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Arkansas Tech University.
Prior to joining the UA Fort Smith athletics department, Gipson was sports editor for the The Gazette newspaper in Greenwood for three years (1996-1999) and was a sports writer for the Times Record newspaper in Fort Smith for 8 1/2 years (1999-2007), during which time he was the beat writer for UA Fort Smith athletics for 5 1/2 years.
Gipson has earned sports writing awards on the collegiate and professional level and received first-place honors from the Arkansas Press Association in 2007 in the Best Sports Story category.
