UAFS Signs Four Prep Tennis Standouts

UAFS tennis coach Ben Anderson added some depth to the men's and women's rosters for next season with the recent signing of four prep standouts to NCAA Division II national letters-of-intent.

Anderson signed Grady McCain from Greenwood, Ark.; Eli Harper from Houston, Texas; and Corey Stewart from Springdale, Ark., to bolster the lineup for the men's team, which finished third in the Heartland Conference this season.

Anderson also signed Lindsy Pearce from Fort Smith to help fill the void left by the graduation of two players on the women's team. The Lady Lions finished second in the Heartland Conference this season and runner-up in the conference tournament.

Grady McCain
McCain, who earned All-State honors, was a part of the Class 6A Conference championship doubles team and Class 6A state runner-up doubles team at Greenwood High School. He helped lead Greenwood to a third-place finish in the Class 6A state tournament.

He advanced to the quarterfinals of the overall state tournament in doubles, losing to the eventual overall state champions.

McCain is ranked No. 6 in the state in Boys 18s singles.

"He's an excellent doubles player," Anderson said. "I think he'll make a contribution as a freshman."

Eli Harper
Harper is ranked No. 102 in Texas by the Tennis Recruiting Network and is ranked No. 225 in Texas by the USTA. He recently won the District 19-4A singles title to earn his second consecutive berth in the region tournament.

He helped lead Summer Creek High School to its second consecutive district title this spring.

"He's very athletic and highly-regarded in Texas," Anderson said. "He will be an impact player. There's a possibility of him making our Top 6 as a freshman."

Cory Stewart
Stewart, who played for Springdale High School, advanced to the Class 7A state quarterfinals in singles this past fall, losing to eventual state champion Dylan Deluca from Bentonville High School.

He advanced to the quarterfinals of the overall state tournament in singles, losing to Christian Mathis from Mountain Home.

Stewart, who earned All-State honors, is ranked No. 7 in among the Tennis Recruiting Network's Arkansas Top 100. He also played basketball for the Bulldogs.

"He's a Top 10-rated player in the state, and he's a good student," Anderson said. "I'm looking forward to him being a part of our team."

Lindsy Pearce
Pearce was the No. 1 player for the Southside Lady Rebels this past fall. She advanced to the Class 7A state tournament championship match in singles the past two seasons, finishing as runner-up both times.

She is ranked No. 3 in Arkansas by Tennis Recruiting Network.

"She's a highly-regarded player, and she will be an impact player," Anderson said. "Her father is the tennis pro at Fianna Hills Country Club."
