Lions Suffer Tough Losses

The UAFS men’s tennis team continues to search for its first win of the season after dropping a pair of hard-fought matches to East Central University and Oklahoma Christian University on Friday in Edmond, Okla.
UAFS (0-4) lost to NCAA Division II ECU 8-1 and NAIA No. 4-ranked OCU 9-0.
The Lions’ only win against ECU came in the No. 1 doubles match where the tandem of senior Lubos Sobotka and freshman Seth Laster beat Andrew Cabato and Stefan Stein 8-4. ECU won the No. 2 doubles match with Julian Caminos and Victor Blasco beating senior Martin Tabler and senior Matheus Silva 8-3 and won the No. 3 doubles match with Marc Fillat and Carlos Muro beating sophomore Evan Daniel and freshman Pedro Carvalho 8-6.
ECU (1-0) won all but one of the singles matches in straight sets. Doyle Springett beat Laster 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 in the No. 6 singles match.
Ranked No. 4 in NAIA, OCU (1-0) played up to its lofty ranking by sweeping UAFS. It was the first time the Lions had been shutout in their four matches this season (fall and spring).
OCU’s No. 1 doubles tandem of Martin Poboril and Bruno Tiberti, who are ranked No. 4 in the nation, beat Sobotka and Laster 8-2.
