FORT SMITH, Ark. – The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith women’s tennis team won its 10th consecutive match on Friday afternoon, beating Heartland Conference foe Newman University 8-1 at Broken Arrow, Okla.

            UA Fort Smith (16-5) hasn’t lost since losing to Central Oklahoma University on March 6.

            The Lady Lions swept all three doubles matches, including a hard-fought 9-8 win by freshmen Emily Singleton and Cara Gilham against Laryssa Ferreira and Emily Gerber in the No. 1 doubles match.

            UA Fort Smith won all but the No. 1 singles matches with Ferreira beating Singleton 6-2, 7-6 for the Lady Jets’ only win.

            The Lions (8-11) extended their winning streak to two matches with a 7-2 win against the Jets. UA Fort Smith won two of the three doubles matches and swept all six singles matches with freshman Lubos Sobotka beating Jimmy Dunseith 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 in the No. 1 singles match.

            UA Fort Smith will return to action at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday when they play Rockhurst University at Bentonville.
